Nachtblumen Podcast #23 Thoms Traxx

The autumn leaves flying in the air mark a new season, and the next chapter in the Nachtblumen Podcast.

Thomas Hijmering is a Dutch DJ and Producer coming from Amsterdam. Like every kid living in such an exciting city, he was making the most of it by visiting a lot of festivals and parties all over since an early age. This time of exploration was valuable for Thomas not only because he had the chance to experience a lot of great and different music, but also to create his first connections with the local scene and community. Speaking of techno, the first time that Thomas truly got in touch with it, was at the institution Trouw, where he was a regular presence.

The life journey of Thomas is one with many turns and phases including studying and working in chemistry. Nowadays, he is splitting his time between the lab, where he is dealing with environmental and pharmaceutical issues, and the weekends when it’s all about music.

A life-altering event for Thomas was meeting one of his best friends to date and a partner in crime Brent Jacko, the owner of the independent platform for electronic music from Amsterdam Minimal Collective. Back in the day, they both shared the passions and dreams about music in its full beauty of all genres, which contributed to a strong bond and beautiful collaborations between the two that continue to the present day.

From house and psy-trance all the way to techno, Thomas’ music taste travels in every direction, which makes him so good at delivering a well-thought through, layered experience with a lot of dynamic when he is behind the booth. In the post-pandemic world, he decided to focus more on his DJ craft highlighting his love for techno. He was quickly noticed within the local community, and soon started to appear at different events around Amsterdam, and on platforms such as Embodiment. Following his great development, Fred Baks from Orphic invited him to become a resident.

A big step for Thomas, to be part of a collective so special as Orphic, that has paved the way for a lot of talented artists in The Netherlands, and is contributing greatly to the electronic music community. Circling back to the various interests of Thomas, it was in the past two years that he also took the opportunity, and started learning music production. After laying the foundations himself, he then decided to attend lessons with Ruben Ganev, who is a master of the groove and helped Thomas learn more about his favourite direction of club sound.

The immense talent and perseverance of Thomas led him to already be booked abroad in Paris, Berlin and all over The Netherlands. It is only the beginning of a long journey filled with a lot of incredible music and growth for this young talent.

For this podcast, Thomas went deeper into his soul and pulled mesmerizing hypnotizing sounds and rhythms for your pleasure. The next hour is a beautiful journey, recorded with a lot of thought and feeling, from an artist that surprises his audience every day. Get in the mood for ADE next week and start dancing already!

Catch Thomas at Ratherlost alongside Oscar Mulero, Planetary Assault Systems, and Talismann at LoFi. If you did not manage to get to that one, he will also appear at Dockyard Festival at the CLR stage alongside Chris Liebing on Saturday!
